MENSWEAR DESIGN LEADER // NYC

Menswear design leader with 20+ years shaping tailored and woven categories for global brands, 10 of them leading design teams. A fashion illustrator by practice, I balance intention and instinct: expressive color and graphic clarity, held to commercial discipline. Trusted with brand relaunches, including Tommy Hilfiger tailored shirts and Kenneth Cole Reaction, I build the design systems and teams that take ideas to market.

From mass market to premium, across woven shirts, denim, outerwear, knits, and soft accessories, I’ve designed for Joseph Abboud, Kenneth Cole, Van Heusen, DKNY, Calvin Klein, and Tommy Hilfiger. My work sits where creative direction meets the business: turning trend and customer insight into lines that sell, and partnering with technical design, raw materials, merchandising, and demand planning to deliver them.

BACKGROUND & EXPERIENCE

Training. BFA in Fashion Design from Pratt Institute, where I received the Marc Brower Design Award. An art-and-design-driven education that gave me a creative point of view and a deep respect for craft.

Career. I began in womenswear, then found my focus in menswear. Over 20 years I’ve moved from assistant designer to design manager, leading my first team in 2016. Highlights include helping launch a first wovens business with Joseph Abboud (+30% revenue), turning Van Heusen around to regain 200 Macy’s doors, and leading the relaunches of Tommy Hilfiger tailored shirts (+20% in year one) and Kenneth Cole Reaction across all 280 Belk doors.

Origins. Born and raised in Hong Kong, five years in Minnesota, and in New York since 2000. I was sketching fashion figures at six and making Barbie clothes as a teenager. That early instinct for form, proportion, and storytelling still shapes how I design.

DESIGN PHILOSOPHY & APPROACH

Philosophy. Design, to me, is the balance of intention and instinct. It lives at the intersection of art and function, where expressive color, graphic clarity, and refined detail work together to tell a story with purpose. I’m drawn to design that feels elevated yet effortless—visually striking, but never forced.

Influenced by fashion, fine art, and the pace of New York City, my work reflects an urban sensibility that values confidence, precision, and restraint. Every decision is deliberate, guided by a belief that strong design should communicate clearly, feel emotionally resonant, and stand the test of time. In menswear, that restraint is also commercial discipline: clarity is what makes a line easy to buy, merchandise, and wear.

Approach. I translate vision into execution. I start with trend research and customer insight, including best-seller data and range plans from demand planning, then align creative intent with brand strategy, technical realities, and market needs. Daily partnership with technical design, raw materials, and merchandising keeps ideas buildable, on-price, and on-brand.

To keep teams moving, I build the systems: a Design Playbook, a Colorway Roadmap, and a Design Storyboard that together cut design development from 6 weeks to 4. I thrive where ideas are challenged and refined through collaboration, and I help teams move from abstract thinking to well-resolved, market-ready design.
